A tribute to the icons, culture cultivators, and tastemakers of the 90’s

I have loved exploring 90’s media in my past years at UTD. The fashion and music from this age feels iconic and fresh, so I am seeking to commemorate their undying creativity. Revolution 909 is a party out of time. Through a series of oil paintings, depictions of the party are meant to capture the spirit of the decade in mere snapshots. The bold, boundary-pushing artists referenced and revitalized in crude paint. From Daft Punk to Vivienne Westwood, this project is a love letter to these ideas, combined and distorted into something new altogether. Not to romanticize, but to embolden; to grasp an artistic essence of this blooming era.

Process

Sketch and Outline

This stage combines references and ideations into form. It serves as a rudimentary basis to further expand ideas and subject matter.

Digital Rendition

The final outline adds color, dynamics, and opportunities for abstraction.

Painting

In crude oil, the painting takes on new life. Unrestricted from previous iterations, the benefits of the medium are embraced to the fullest extent.
